The Rhodes Wood Wedding Suit… It’s the experience that makes YOUR day extra special!

Your wedding day is very important

Hopefully, we do it once, but we’ve got to confess we’ve made suits for clients first weddings and a few years later for their second wedding too, as well as suits for their sons, now acting as ‘best men’…

Rhodes Wood in Harrogate specialises in creating the perfect suit for your wedding day. We aim to strike a balance between classic tailoring and style, so that when you look back on your wedding day in 20 years, there will be no need to cringe.

“I was horrified, once when attending a wedding fair to look through photographers’ portfolios… in the ’80s men insisted on dressing like a male version of a meringue (or their future wives insisted). Also, how many men now, are confused thinking that they are due on set, to film an episode of Peaky Blinders? Convict haircuts and tweeds that are over trimmed with bits of mock suede or leather, and flat caps look more ‘Am-Dram’ than of timeless elegance!”

Here are our tips for buying a wedding suit that is stress-free and will ensure you look back on the day, not the fashion fads. See our Wedding Packages

1. Quality understated elegance… You wear the suit… don’t let the suit wear you.

2. Be realistic in your budget and your body shape…. I’ve heard dozens of times. “Of course, I’m going to be about three stones lighter by the time it’s ready” … Mmmmm Righhhhht!

“Of course, we all want to look our best and detailed realistic planning will pay off, be honest with yourself, your tailor, and your time frame”.

3. Staging the process of making the clothes around the client’s regime, requires thought, discipline, planning and realistic ideals.

“The chap who claims he is going to be three stones lighter in 6 weeks, but will I measure him now and get it right the first time…err no!”

4. Our advice remains the same – “You wear the suit… don’t let the suit wear you”.

Suit and Cravate

5. Work with us, but don’t plan too far ahead, 4-6 months for wedding suits is ideal, but on made to measure, with a good figure we can hit 6-8 weeks, if we must, dependant on holiday periods.

The best I’ve ever heard was

“I’m getting married and need a suit”

“Excellent, when is the wedding sir?”

“1 pm today”

We did it though, ready to wear of course with some speedy deft re-tailoring from Chris our tailor of 23 years. With the whole ensemble head to foot, he did look very good and thankfully Chris was on hand to shorten sleeves and trousers…. suits do not go out unless they are right!

6. Set your budget, for some individuals a budget isn’t a problem, but for most, whilst it’s an enjoyable journey to getting hitched, it’s an expensive one!

“My mother always had a saying “New suit, New shoes!” my father would always have a new suit, shirt, tie, and shoes, and never wear older shoes with a new suit…. his saying as a fellow Yorkshireman “don’t spoil the ship for a ha’porth of tar” (think that means 1/2 a penny of tar)

So, to coin a phrase and one I heard many times directed at me from my father… “Cut your coat according to your cloth”, meaning set a budget and live within it”.

This brings me to what it will cost you for crossing the Rhodes-Wood threshold.

Why is it important to get the balance of a wedding day just right?

Answer – Shared Memories

“One of the best weddings I’ve been to was a super relaxed affair held at a wonderful old Church outside Skipton with a reception held at the Tythe Barn at Bolton Abbey.

It was an enjoyable and memorable day, with a lovely Church service and a reception held in the most beautifully lit and atmospheric of venues, coupled with very simple and well-cooked food…. again super, relaxed with one large prime cut of beef per table with green beans and dauphinoise potatoes and of course wine…. heaven, with entrée and pudding of equal merit.

As it was around bonfire night, we all enjoyed the fireworks next door at Bolton Abbey….somewhat like a private display but FOC.

Lovely to see and be there and to enjoy the day, the occasion when two people join as one in God’s house.

My feelings are that it should be precision planned but kept simple… quality will always outshine gimmicks.”

No matter whether you get married in a picture-perfect Yorkshire Dales village church, a swanky hotel in Leeds or at the historic Sun Pavilion in the beautiful Valley Gardens – Harrogate, Rhodes Wood should be your first call.
